Malaysia Boleh

I'm glad I went to McD to watch the ASEAN Suzuki Cup Final 2nd Leg which took place at the Bung Karno Stadium...

Reason 1 being, the atmosphere in that fast food outlet at Sungai Dua was superb. People from all races cheering for our national team in unison. If you want to learn the true meaning of 1Malaysia, that is the place to be...

Reason 2 being, our national football team finally looks like they're going in the right direction. I hope FAM does not treat the ASEAN Cup as the World Cup, gets cocky, and neglects all the hard work done until now...

For the game itself, Malaysia lost 2-1, but because they won the 1st leg 3-0, aggregate score is Malaysia 4 - 2 Indonesia, we won the cup!!! :D

The first of heroics was performed by this fella,

Khairul Fahmi

He saved the penalty kick from Indonesia, which if it went in, would most probably open the flood gate for more Indonesian goal. The McD folks called him Fahmi the Spiderman...

Basically Malaysia played tried to play like Inter against Barcelona, parking the bus. 9 man defending, and 1 lone striker up front...

Mohd Safee Sali

By chance, a Fabregas-que defence splitting long pass put the striker through from 1 of the 9 defenders, and a couple of touches later, the ball was expertly dispatched into the top left corner of the Indonesian goal...

Another nail in the Indonesian coffin, this away goal means they now have to score 5 goals to win...

Which they managed only 2 in a late flurry of attacks, 1 of them was a deflected goal off the head on our own defender...

End result, Malaysia won the ASEAN Cup for the first time. Kudos to the team!!! :D

PS: Somehow, I feel that Malaysia's coach looks like Arsenal's manager much...

MOS 2011

Time to review my Measure Of Success for 2010:

1. Gain promotion - got the letter somewhere mid-ish August, although the company HR just revised the pay range 1 month prior to it, so my pay didn't really move up. Not as exciting as it was supposed to be, but considered something achieved anyway ^^.

2. More investment - Sold the meager amount of my company shares before its price plummeted and used the money to open a Maybank Gold Savings Account. Financial shit officially declared case close, 100%.

3. Change car - nahhh.. see... my Super Leggera now passed on to my younger sister to safekeep. Just heard that she managed to scratch 1 side of the car into our house gate, and got her first saman... I remember Jeremy Clarkson said in the Teenage Car Challenge: "think of the size of the tree that your child will eventually crash into"... hmm....

4. Cashout from Nuffnang for the 2nd time - not gonna happen... I have been focusing my energy on work and thus neglecting this blog much... I don't even know what's my current earnings accumulated.. sighsss... poor blog, I shall take care of you much much in this coming 2011...

5. Turn from Fat Buu to Kid Buu - Failed!!! Again!!! HAIHHHHHHHH....

----------

3 out of 5 greens, again... so I shall set 5 more targets for 2011...

1. Save serious money - I have not been able to do that properly due to various reasons which I'm not gonna elaborate, but those reasons have been eliminated, I shall set a target of RM5000 as a minimum target (no point setting high targets and fail, and MOS can be revised quarterly anyway)...

2. Investment - read 2 books on investing, increase my gold savings account content appropriately, prepare for investment year 2012.

3. Sports - Basketball shooting accuracy to 70% field goal, at the moment it is 30% field goal rate; jog 1 whole lap around the company non-stop (2.5km), now only manage half lap.

4. Turn from Fat Buu to Kid Buu - third time mention, this time must success!!! If I can manage to achieve #3, should be no problem for this.

5. Improve EQ - remain stress free (which is easier said than done), and help friends to remain stress free.

Team Lunch Q4 FY10

This is a long overdue post which I totally forgot about, it is about our FY10 Q4 Team Lunch which happened on November 23rd earlier this year...

You see, I'm kinda bored with posting about makan places already, after all I'm not a food blogger. This time, I shall blog about the makan place selection process...

----------

A week prior to our makan day, a team mate volunteered to be the vote keeper and sent out this email to ask us to vote for our choice of restaurant...

Voting was open for 1 whole week, and at the end of it, the results are as follows:

The thing is though, you see, much like our country's previous general elections, the winner did not win with a big enough majority. As a result, there was a public outcry/protestation/side switching/watevaf**kyoucallit... I was one of them by the way *ngek ngek*

(Right click and open in new tab to enlarge)

There's more but I shall not paste all of it, bottom line was, the boss got so fed up that he organized a new, sudden-death vote...

After 25 minutes of voting, here's the new result...

All the ParKRoyal people switched Chili's, and thus E&O got thwarted...

So Chili's it was...

Since the company was paying, most people ordered steak because they are more expensive (RM40-ish)...

Normally I try to avoid beef if I can, so I ordered something chicken-ish...

Here's the real thing...

Many people don't like chicken breast meat, but I love them, because they are boneless...

Anyway, this chicken dish just cost RM32, and I did not want to spend less than my colleagues, so I topped up a dessert worth RM12...

Here's the real thing...

It's nice... but, I have to say, the best dessert I've ever had is still the one in Lone Star Steakhouse, Loveland...

I wonder, will I ever be able to set mouth on that heavenly treat, again? Hmmmmm...

Lonely, lonely Christmassss

I just realized that I haven't been making any posts for quite some time already, so here I am, on Christmas day, typing something just for the sake of updating when I have nothing better to blog about, while chewing away on some sotong goreng from Jusco and sipping away a cup of 3 in 1 Milo...

Merry Christmas to all of you who are reading this space... ^^

Food worm

I have been eliminating McD on my weekday dinners menu, and replacing Apex coffee pizza getaway with a lap around the factory's compound and shooting 200 balls at the basketball court on my weekends menu over this 2 months, and I realized a couple of things...

1. I have RM300 more per month.

2. For the first time in a few years, my pants felt a bit loose.

Hopefully I will keep up with this lifestyle for as long as possible...

I finally drove my car to CAR's at Queensbay today for waxing, the whole process required 3 hours, so to kill time, I went to Starbucks to go online.

Initially I was just using MSN Messenger to chat with pretty girl, I didn't realize there were 2 girls seated at the table beside me, by their looks I suppose they are student girls. Actually I didn't even pay attention to them, nor did I eavesdrop on what they were talking about, just that 1 of the girls blurted out a statement that has a profound impact on my ears, such that it was impossible for it not to register in my mind.

"臭鸡掰! 这样做我女孩子的矜持不是没有了咯!"
(Chao ji bai! Do like this, my female reservation is gone lo!)

我感觉到有股冲动想要转过头去安慰她说: "别担心, 你原本就没有"

不过我当然没有这么做. 我不是"八瓜" 的本质...

I was tempted to turn my head over and assure her: "Don't worry, you don't have any to begin with."

But of course, I didn't. I'm not inherently busybody...

Appreciation Lunch @ US Pizza

Every year end is the time where all the Jusco stores in Malaysia will have the Back To School fair, this includes the one at Bandar Perda in Penang.

It is also the time of the year where my dad grows older much more quickly due to the inability to find promoters to work.

I will always try to help him to search for suitable candidates, this year however, I have a very good helper.

You see, my dad doesn't pay me for my trying to help him, so it would be weird if I were to pay my helper for her help, so instead, I brought her out for lunch as a token of appreciation.

Venue is US Pizza @ Green Lane. It is a small scale, cosy, and highly localized pizzeria, and the best part is, you can only find this eatery in Penang, KL does not have it.

The helper mentioned is known as Cili Padi, and due to her helpful nature, also known as Angel.

This place has buy one free one promotion every Tuesday, but it will be packed to the full on that day and the dining experience will be bad, so we decided to go today. After all, wanna show appreciation cannot be kiam siap about promotions right?

We ordered the Value Set for 2. Actually I don't know whether this is the name for the set or not, I just made the name up, it's just a set meal that serves 2 person.

It comes with Malaysian-ized American Iced Tea,

4 pieces Cinnamon Bread Stix (which I forgot to capture the photo of),

A regular sized Malaysian-ized pizza (9 inches), we ordered the Ocean Delight.

Actually is Ocean something la, I'm not sure is it Ocean Delight or something else, forgot to pay attention to the menu...

6 pieces Malaysian-ized New York Wings.

At RM33++, it is not exactly the cheapest pizza meal we can get, but... but... just look at the toppings on the pizza... sorry to say this but Pizza Hut and Domino's are absolutely pawned!

A good day out for lunch this is... today being Friday makes it much better too... and of course going out with a girl makes it even much much betterer lah, as always...

Today is Friday right? I know tomorrow no need to work :P

Joining the Android Gang

One year and one week after I bought my Samsung J800, exactly when the warranty became void, my phone decided that it hates my voice and the microphone died on me.

I couldn't send the phone back to the factory to get it fixed for free, and to be perfectly honest the phone hasn't been one of my better phone purchases anyway, so I decided to have revenge by just buying a new phone...

A better phone...

A phone that is the nemesis of Apple, a phone with Android...

This phone:

HTC Wildfire, the cheapest of the Android phones on offer from HTC, at a retail price of RM1199.

The second cheapest HTC Android phone is the Aria, which retails at RM1799. The Aria is actually just a phone that has a slightly bigger screen and a slightly faster processor but much much more expensive than the Wildfire, so I think I made a good choice here...

Many people asked me: "Why not take the package from Maxis?"

My answer would be: I'm paying RM30/month for my phone bill right now, if I took the package from Maxis, I would be paying RM600 less for the phone, but RM68 more every month for 2 years.

Not a good deal if you ask me. I mean, yeah I know that I would get the data plan with unlimited internet usage, which if I don't have, my phone would be rubbish.

And I don't care, because I plan to use my phone as a phone with slightly more apps than a normal phone and can get online at wi-fi spots.

For example, this app...

The camera is not that great though, never been a powerful feature of HTC anyway, 5MP camera takes picture of this quality...

I've got my Powershot A3000IS to take care of my quality photography needs though (I mean my needs here, not the needs of some pros or DSLR wannabes)...

And hopefully this Android phone is more durable than the tantrum throwing Samsung...

Rainy...

When I was studying in college, I did not have a car, I spent a large chunk of my time commuting back and forth between home and campus in buses and trains, and this involves a lot of walking as well.

Being in Malaysia, of course we would expect rain at the most unexpected circumstances, for example when I forgot to bring my umbrella. 9 out of 10 times that I forgot to bring my umbrella, it would rain.

And not only will it rain, it will rain at spot on timing, when I just left the campus walking towards to train station, or when I just got off the bus walking back home. As a result, I've had my fair share of time being a sakai, soaked in the rain.

Because of this too, I've trained my body to be immune to the negative effects of rain a.k.a fever, flu, running nose and stuff. I would be able to walk in constant rain for 10-15 minutes and not fall sick.

I've just had about 30 seconds under a slight drizzle a couple of days back, I think I'm beginning to feel the effect today. I've been feeling cold all day and I don't feel much strength in my body.

It's been more than 3 years since I left college, I might have lost that bit of rain resistivity...

Or is it just due to the fact that I'm not getting any younger getting old already?

Basketball

I got a free basketball when I bought a foot pump the other day, so instead of jogging (which went quite badly on one previous occasion), I went to the basketball court in the office compound for some shootouts just now...

It didn't go quite well either...

Result of me catching the ball in an awkward position...

Counting Down

I can feel that the end is near... in a matter of weeks I guess...

Only that, does this ending heralds a new and more hopeful beginning? Or will this end plunge the world, my world, into a monotonous hybrid?

Kampachi @ Equatorial Penang

Remember this?

I did not bring my camera for the E&O session, but I definitely did bring for this one...

Because this appreciation lunch session is only for an exclusive 15 or so people versus 150 people for the E&O lunch, I got quite a few jealous remarks from fellow colleagues...

"Huh? Work so hard for the event, the boss only belanja you Kampuchea restaurant?" (Kampuchea = Cambodia)

"Cheh, Lampachi restaurant, dunno eat what rubbish one laaaaa"

@.@"

Anyway, let's not bother about those naysayers, because I get to eat for free and they don't XD

Kampachi is actually a Japanese specialty restaurant in Penang's Equatorial Hotel. They do buffet on weekends, but for today, it is ala carte menu...

They seem to specialize in lots of Japanese wine too...

Overall the restaurant is quite nicely decorated, I would say. Nothing lavish, nothing complicated...

They even use fresh flower as deco on each table...

Let's cut to the main point: the food...

Don't know who ordered this sushi, so don't know what name is it, but it's our appetizer...

My main course: Makunouchi Bento (vegetarian) : RM54

Freakin' expensive, but who cares, not me paying :P ... Taste wise, so-so...

My leng-lui neighbor's main course: Kampachi Bento : RM66

It is more expensive than mine, but I think it is more worth it. Got some exquisitely fresh sashimi, some tempura prawns, a side of fish (not sure is unagi or salmon?) in the bento... naissss~

Overall, is a not bad appreciation lunch lah... but I still don't want to volunteer for next year celebration event committee @.@"

哑口吃黄连

When I said: "I usually arrive around 8.00am", I actually intended to say: "I usually arrive at 8.00am, you can arrange the meeting any time after 8.00am."

I did not intend to say something like: "I usually arrive around 8.00am, look at me, I'm a sibeh good employee!"

So, you don't need to interrupt me by saying: "Oh! I come at 7.30am one!", because that really makes me speechless....

Nobody is trying to challenge you for Best Employee Award... =.="

Jogging

I used to be a frequent jogger. Lately though, I haven't been so diligent about it due to one reason or another...

So today, I'm going to kick start the routine again of at least 3 times a week.

I read in a certain article by a so called workout guru on the net, can't remember his name, but the article mentioned something like this:

"A proper and effective workout would be a workout that requires you to keep changing pace. For example if you are jogging, you should run a bit, and then slow down and walk a bit, and then run again. Alternating between 200m of runs and 200m of walks would be a good way to do it, eventually upping the range to 500m the max.

If you want proof, just look at the athletes in the Olympics. You see those 100m/200m sprinters with well built bodies, have you ever seen any marathon runners have that kind of bodies?"

Hmm... makes sense... so I decided to follow this guideline today, I alternated 500m of running and then 500m of walking around the site and back, which in total is about 6km.

It was a great workout, lots of sweat and instantly I felt more refreshed, albeit very tired and having developed a bit of muscle tightness...

I might have overdone it though, in my 5 years old sports shoes...

Ouch!

Looks like I'ma need a new pair of shoes for the job...

Burger King

Whenever any of you folks think that whatever KL have, Penang also have, you just need to come to a certain fast food outlet to be reminded of the stark reality...

Almost 1 month into it's operation, and the queue is still long... but then, PappaRich is 4 months old here, still as crowded as ever, so I suppose the queue is about right for 1 month old Burger King...

One thing I noticed though... yes the queue is long, but half of the problem is caused by the long turnaround time per customer. It's probably the way they work, but McD's crew would be able to serve 3 customers with the amount of time they took to serve 1... that's how slow they were...

Iphone 4

Please focus on the words that i red-squared...

Epic lol-ed... just when almost every one else is queuing up to get hold of 1 of these... this bloke...

News

I've been getting some stick recently from the few readers that I've got. Not that I blog that often nowadays anyway, and when I do blog, all that I've been blogging about are car, car, car, car, car and more car... It was so bad that they threatened to stop reading my blog if I don't blog about something else and my blog shall then return to its rightful place, in negligence...

Sorry lah mates, forgive me please, I just bought myself a new car mahhhh (not exactly new also lah, but much much newer than my first car), naturally I would be excited, right? To show that I'm sincere in my apology, I shall top up my apology with a bimbotic sign...

Sorry ya! >.<

- - - - - - - - - -

Okay, so today I shall blog about 2 news that happened to me recently, I've got a piece of good news and a piece of bad news, I shall reveal the bad news first...

This is the bad news...

Barely 1 month into the new car, already got "opening ceremony"... but that's fine, not that I'm rich lah, but RM15 is not exactly unaffordable, judging from the fact that I was parking at that spot for almost 6 hours. Parking inside Pavillion for 6 hours would cost more than that...

The annoying thing is, the officer wrote Myvi! How can he?? Didn't he see the car badge??? Seems like what the Toyota logo did so successfully to the kids in the neighborhood did not have any effect on him... that's so sad :(

Now the good news... This is the good news...

RM200 voucher for Sunshine Supermarket. The effort spent to get these were 30 minutes of putting together a slide for a pathetic project that I've completed, and another 12 minutes of presenting it to a panel of 4 technical judges. Too bad that luck was not on my side, best technical and best presentation gets another RM300 voucher each.

Not that I'm going to complain, hehehe... Now I can get 2 weeks worth of grocery for free, plus a new table and some car care items, woohooo!~~ :D

- - - - - - - - - -

After finish typing all these, I just realized both pieces of news somehow still have something to do with my car... shit... sorry >.<

I shall try my best to blog other things soon...

Efficient Driving

Three top tips for efficient driving to give you better fuel consumption:

1. Avoid driving above 3000 rpm unless absolutely necessary.
2. Maintain constant speed and rpm while driving, avoid huge variation.
3. Don't brake unnecessarily, and don't brake abruptly.
4. When taking off from a traffic light, don't put your foot down on the gas pedal unless you are absolutely sure that you won't need to brake again immediately.

Above are all not applicable to me...

I have been doing 11-12 km/litre of petrol on my previous 2 tanks, with a mixture of going to work, going to Georgetown, and going across to the mainland, so it is 70% city 30% highway...

On this latest tank of petrol, I have been doing 100% going to work and back.

Actually, from where I stay to where I work is only 5 km, so I only do 10 km daily...

Problem is, on this 5 km trip, there are 5 traffic lights and 10 corners, so you can imagine I have to accelerate/brake every 500 meters or so, and it doesn't help that I am surrounded by Penang drivers who think their Wira/Kancil have 200bhp and ABS...

As a result, after 3 days of filling up my tank this time round,

To put things in perspective, 1 bar in the petrol gauge display is approximately 4.5 litres of petrol, if we do some simple maths here, 31.7 km for 4.5 litres means... means...

7 km/litre!!! WTF??!!!!

This is the mileage of my 15 years old Kancil 660EZ... hmm...
